The workshop 'Causation, Mechanisms, Levels' thematically is located in the recent discussions about explanations in the lifesciences and their ontological implications.
The first day (July, 14th) will mostly concentrate on procedures in the generation of lifescientific (especially neuroscientific) explanations. In recent years, these scientific procedures were questioned more and more concerning their explanatory value.
The second day (July, 15th) will place special focus on questions about the ontological implications of lifescientific explanations, mainly interested in the metaphysics of causal and constitutive relations.
